Vivaan

This is a story of a 9 year old boy Vivaan and his family, who came seeking help because he was struggling with performance anxiety in competitive situations. Vivaan would vomit in these situations and be unable to perform. The family had 6 sessions over a period of 6 months and made significant progress in externalizing the difficulties, in lessening its effects and in developing/expressing an alternative storyline that fit better with his hopes for being pressure free, being able to use the anxiety to perform better and winning over the fear.

To read more about Vivaan’s story, please refer to the poster below. The poster describes the use of narrative therapy while working with Vivaan and his family. The therapy focuses on highlighting the problem as separate from the person and developing the knowledge of the child and family in fighting this problem.

We would love to hear from you – your questions, comments and reflections about the use of narrative practices and Vivaan’s story.
